Kairos Outside Prison Ministry of Southern California is a Christian faith based ministry which addresses the spiritual needs of spouses, parents and relatives
of those in prison. Our priority is that the women who come as a guest, will be shown and experience the LOVE of Christ, forgiveness, acceptance, and a heaven environment. These loved ones often“do time” right along  with their loved ones. KO Southern California traces its humble beginnings back to the early 1990's when we held our first weekend at Pomona Trinity Methodist Church.

Kairos Outside lets these loved ones know  they are not alone. By sharing the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, Kairos hopes to change hearts, transform lives and impact the world. As a ministry, Kairos embraces a diverse group of volunteers working together to fulfill Christ's call to action in Matthew 25:36.

As one Kairos Outside Guest aptly stated, "I always assume people are going to judge me when they find out I had someone in prison; but it was humbling to find out these women not only liked me, but they loved me.”

Our Council welcomes you to come experience the Love of Christ and forgiveness. Interested in this ministry? Here are the next steps...

Get Involved

We need your help.  There are many opportunities for you to serve in this ministry. All we ask is that you have a willing heart and a spirit of obedience and you can play a crucial role in God's ministry of Changing Hearts, Transforming Lives and Impacting the World.  Here's some basic information to help you "get involved."

Kairos Outside Serving the Southern California Area

Kairos Outside offers a comfortable, non-judging retreat for women to support each other as they journey through the incarceration of a friend or relative. The Kairos Outside Weekend is a 2 ½ day program based on a series of talks by volunteers designed to address the pain of enduring separation from the one inside and the judgment of others from their community. Guests hear the talks in small family groups. The program is interspersed with music, prayer, and and fun activities. Kairos Prison Ministry is a Christian program, although no religious affiliation is necessary to be a Guest. Any 20-year-old or older female family member whose life has been impacted by the incarceration of a loved one, or a woman who was unable to attend Kairos Inside while in prison, is eligible to attend Kairos Outside.

Be a Team Member

Kairos volunteers come from all walks and strata of life. They all share a desire to follow Christ's admonition of Matthew 25:36, "I was in prison and you visited me."  If you feel God's call to minister to the incarcerated's female family members, friends or relatives, you may be called as a part of a Kairos Outside team.

Be a Support Volunteer

Not all Kairos Outside members serve just in the Weekend Retreat. Each Kairos retreat weekend has opportunities for outside support, such as baking cookies, writing letters of support, or preparing meals.  Get your church's Sunday school classes to color placemats for mealtimes during the retreat.
